Here is a incident that happened in mlm prospecting. I was in a diner recently and noticed four people sitting, talking, laughing and actually enjoying each other’s company. I was surprised by my surprise of what should have been a very mundane occurrence.
You know…a diner, booths, and people eating and talking! It seemed such an uncommon occurrence in our world of Tweets, texts, emails, and cell phones! We live in a generation where our competence is measured by our multi-tasking skills. It’s an expectation.
It’s no longer impolite to eat a meal, have a conversation and text fans all at the same time! Yes, we "communicate" with other human beings, we nourish our bodies and we cultivate our network. But at what cost? What do we lose by not being IN the conversation? The feelings? The insight? The emotions? The body language? Are we losing these skills in our haste to improve our rate of production? We’ve convinced ourselves that we’re getting A LOT more done using our tech-tools and multi-skills. But what’s the quality of those tasks?
Ask your kids or someone close to you!
With a ‘how quickly can I get it done and move on to the next,’ attitude, you miss a lot of the scenery. The world around you. The people. The feelings.
A dance instructor once explained to me, "that the purpose was not to end up on the other side of the dance floor, but rather to enjoy each note of the music!"
As a small home business owner you wear many hats.
Two are very important…. the employee’s, and the boss’.
Let me explain. A snapshot of your week; job, kids, school events, church, spouse, meals, clubs, home, friends… and your business. Put on your Boss hat and evaluate your performance as an employee of your business!
Last minute efforts, low priority, less than quality work, eating while talking on the phone, always tired, always late, poor accounting, driving and texting, little patience, poor relationships with other employees (family).
This type of employee will NOT help you build a successful MLM business?
Accept the fact that time is not the problem. The problem is your priorities. Poor priority management turns everything into an emergency. Trying to manage you, your family, job and a struggling home based business in emergency mode is battle field triage! Stop the bleeding and transport!
Two hours twice a week find a quiet, non-home office area for "business time,"(library, small diners, FedEx Kinko’s).
"Upline" texts, emails and phone calls seldom require immediate attention.
One weeknight and a couple of hours on Saturday for "opportunity training", is plenty.
Calls to mlm prospects while driving will always sound like ‘begging.’
You’re asking your prospect to give you hundreds of dollars, join your MLM and follow you down the road to success. Yet, you don’t have a clue of their WHY; and you have to hurry the meeting to get the next appointment!
Prospects can feel your urgency and anxiety. You’re not closing because you’re not FEELING!
Being able to develop a self-awareness that focuses on the present is crucial in your business. (Your personal life too!). Get focused on the priorities.

This article will discuss whether joining a home based MLM business opportunity is the right thing for you to do. Network marketing has been growing at an amazing pace and it is primarily due to the power of the Internet and being able to market worldwide from the comfort of your computer chair. But will getting involved in this industry actually make you any money?
